FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Biological dentistry treats the mouth as part of the whole body. At Biosmile, we use metal-free, biocompatible materials and take a minimally invasive approach whenever possible. We also look at factors such as infection, inflammation, and the oral microbiome to understand the underlying cause, rather than simply treating the symptoms.
Yes, when it is done with the right precautions. Because removing amalgam can release mercury vapor, at Biosmile we follow IAOMT SMART protocols, including a rubber dam, high-volume suction, filtered air, protective barriers, and sectioning the filling into pieces rather than drilling through it all at once.
A root canal can help save a tooth, but every situation is different. At Biosmile, we evaluate the tooth using 3D imaging along with your health history to determine the best approach. Depending on what we find, options may include retreatment or extraction followed by a metal-free zirconia implant when appropriate. We explain the benefits and considerations of each option so you can make an informed decision.
Coverage varies by treatment and insurance plan, and many biological treatments may be considered out-of-network. At Biosmile, we provide a written estimate before treatment and can submit a preauthorization to your insurance company so you have a better idea of your expected coverage and out-of-pocket cost.
At Biosmile, we don’t use fluoride. Instead, we use 10% nano-hydroxyapatite products and focus on supporting remineralization. We also look at factors that may contribute to tooth decay, including diet, the oral microbiome, and dry mouth. As research continues to evolve, we’re happy to discuss the options based on your individual cavity risk.
